THE FINE LINE: A 16mm AVALANCHE EDUCATION FILM

...coming fall 2008...

Rocky Mountain Sherpas Inc is proud to announce an alliance with the Canadian Avalanche Foundation, Red Bull, Black Diamond, and Backcountry Access in the quest to make a comprehensive avalanche education DVD package targeted at youth and designed for curriculum integration. Further support has come privately from Ivan and Maia Velev, Hazel Sangster, Jeff, Jamie and Vanessa Mackie, and Cameron Plewes and without this fantastic aid, this all couldn't have been done.....at least to the badass extent that we are going to do it!

Fall '07, after juggling all the office work that never ends, we dove right into production. With dozens of camera mounts throughout the Rockies and thousands of still frames we aim to capture the seasonal metamorphose of fall to winter to spring and back again. Leaves turning, lakes and creeks freezing, bare slopes turning white, cornices growing, all right before your eyes...tres cool!

In December, we lucked out with a fantastic backcountry ski, snowboard and snowmobile shoot south of Revelstoke. Sunny days, deep pow, and camera movements using dolly's and cables let us capture some dope 16mm angles. Red Bull riders Sean Petit and Mikey Rencz joined in, along with other fellow mountain shredstars Chris Rubens, Eric Hjorliefson, Shin Campos, and Skye Sheele.

January, we got into the avalanche nitty-griity a bit more. Interview days with snow guru's Bruce Jamieson, Dave Gauthier, and Grant Statham plus some heart wrenching testimonials of some of the craziest avalanche stories we have ever heard. We also got out with Dave Ilse, Rocket Miller and the Lake Louise boys to profile the ski patrol scene and toss a few bombs around hoping for a result. And boy did we get one.....size 2.5 to ground on 16mm in the morning pinkness, booyeah!

For now, we are busy editing up the first teaser for the project and preparing ourselves for Sin City.....the 2008 SIA tradeshow in Las Vegas, Yikes!. Next, heli time in Canmore to film ice climbing, Mike Weigele's to shred and CMH to throw charges and capture slides....Feb's a three course meal! Plus, more hanging with resort ski patrol and lots of touring days with the HD cam for our training films. If all pans out, look for us in Haines, Alaska in March to document one of the more beautiful places on earth, the North! Its a touchy season out there so everyone take it easy.

YES to the NO!!

We are very pleased to announce the release, and great success of our latest short film, YES TO THE NO. The film is about a new sport called NoBoarding, that's right, NoBoarding. For those of you who haven't heard of it, and for those of you who have (but have suppressed the memory due to pure disbelief)...NoBoarding is exactly the same as Snowboarding, BUT WITH NO BINDINGS!! I repeat, No frickin Bindings.

The NoBoard was invented by the legendary pro snowboarder Greg Todds in 2001. It is designed for powder riding, which is what Greg did every day, but the NoBoard also performs well in slush. Now a days there is a whole crew of committed NoBoarders living in central British Columbia and pushing the limits of whats possible on a NoBoard. The results are stagering, and the film showcases big one-footed cliff airs getting stomped, steep lines getting slayed, and huge magnificent peaks being ripped top to bottom in a matter of seconds.

"People think you're lifting your toes and your heels when your snowboarding, but what you're really doing is putting downward pressure on your board" says NoBoarding cult leader Cholo Burns. Greg Todds and Cholo helped design and produce a rubber stomp pad with rope that screws into a snowboards front and rear binding patterns. NoBoarders can pull up on the rope to help their feet stick to the board while riding, or, like the pros do, let go and rely entirely on feel, momentum, and balance to surf their way down the mountain.

Yes to the NO was brilliantly received at it's World Premiere at the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival 2007. It has been selected to play on the Banff Film Festival World Tour, and will see hundreds of screenings all over the world!!! Seven Continents, including Antarctica!?!

It is a great honour to be on the tour this year, and we at the Sherpas would like to thank everyone involved in the production of the film as well as all those great fans who encouraged us so much with their support and compliments!

Please! Go Check out a screening of YES to the NO at a Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour stop near you!!!!

NoBoarding inventor Greg Todds tragically passed away in an avalanche in the winter of 2005. We miss you Greg.

INTRODUCING "The Art of Jon Mossop", created by Dave Mossop.

This is an in depth view into the life and art of a professional Glassblower. Jonathan lives and works in Victoria, BC. His sculptures use the inherent flowing quality of molten Glass to explore the ways emotional states and moods are communicated through gesture.

"I want to create work that is techically fascinating as well as emotionally evocative, giving viewers an opportunity to reflect on themselves throught the experience of these pieces."

Mossop now has an extensive list of exhibitions and awards to his name and is represented by numerous galleries in the Canada and the US

The film is both educational and enlightening and features the inevitably spectacular photography of molten fluids in motion
