About RMS -
The Rocky Mountain Sherpas are a small group of committed skiers, snowboarders,
photographers and filmmakers based out of Calgary, AB. Founded in 1997,
our focus is on expressing not only the beauty and freedom of snow-riding,
but also the power and grace of the mountains that cradle us. Though backcountry
big-line skiing is our primary passion, we welcome any form of mountain
play as long as it has creativity, integrity, and style.
Our latest film release, "Yes to the No"(2006), is currently
touring the entire globe with the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival,
and is due for screening at numerous other internationally renown mountain
film festivals including Telluride, Vancouver, and the Telus Festival
in Whistler. We have produced multiple full lenth DVDs packed with short
films, the latest being "Bulletins from a Colder Planet"(2005).
Included are ski and snowboard short films including "Cream Show"(2005),
"Fireballin" (2004), and "Deep Seeded Instability"
(2003), "IFSA US Championships - Snowbird"(2004) and many many
more. Some segments can be viewed at the "Video" page of this
website, and other segments can be found on www.biglines.com,
whom we work with on a monthly basis. The coming year is going to be very
exciting, with three new 'core'respondents dialed in, and a whole lot
of tasty trips planned! We will be bringing material from Golden, Revelstoke,
Whistler, Lake Louise, Fernie, Pemberton, Bella Coola, the Monarch Range,
Thompson Pass (AK), Tibet (China), Europe and even Argentina!
Our most recent innitiative is a modernistic and comprehensive Avalanche
Education DVD package designed for young people. It will be available
both to any recreational user interested in learning more about the backcountry,
as well as integrated into the curriculum of high school and university
level students. We are greatly looking forward to meeting the challenge
of communicating the wide range of infomation regarding Avalanches and
Backcountry travel in a creative and effective manner.
RMS strives to breath a new life into the ski community, and remind us
all of why we love to be in the mountains. RMS focuses on new creative
ways of communicating the skill, grace, and joy of skiing and snowboarding,
while balancing the safety measures essential to ensuring a life-long
courtship with nature. We trully hope our film work and photography remind
you of that pristine and affectionate relationship you have with your
environment when you are at play with it.

Eric
Crosland - (Executive Producer, Co-Owner)
Eric
relishes the mountains like no other. Skiing is his life, filming
is his...other life. Eric works as a professional adventure sports
Producer and Director with Freeride Entertainment in Nelson, BC.
Having graduated from film school in Vancouver, he now has experience
working on numerous film productions for companies including Sony,
Coca Cola, Whistler/Blackcomb, Red Bull and Fox and NBC TV. Above
all, Eric is an artist, and this quality is unmistakable not only
his work, but in the way he treats, perpetually inspires, and makes
laugh uncontrollably, all those around him. |

Malcolm
Sangster - (Producer,Co-owner)
As
a graduated biology student from UVic, Malcolm loves to test the
limits of the humanoid form. A big-wall climber and accomplished
ski-mountaineer, Malcolm is at home in the backcountry. Pumping
out documents as the office b*&ch, accountant and prodcuer,
he keeps the show in line. However, he also happens to be a fine
drummer and lays out a fat beat for anyone who deserves it. |

Mike
Nixon - (Senior Writer)
Possibly
one of the funniest people in Western Canada, Nixon uses his creativity
and incredible physical ability to take backcountry snowboarding
to a new level. As an accomplished writer, he'll be logging the
goods from Golden as he does every year. His girlfriend Kirsten
Lyle is also an outstanding sherpa, as she shreds like no other
NEVER budging from spectacular form. |

Callum Paterson - (Animation and Illustration)
One
of the funniest, randomest, most creative savages this side of Wetaskawin.
Musical and artistic mastermind, fluid and explosive big mountain
rider, stoking and hilarious outdoorsman, Callum creates not only
beautiful lines, but beautiful works of art. He is currently attending
Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and is an active painter,

Dave
Petch - (Music Director)
Here
we have a true gem of humanity. A day of shredding with 'Mistah
Peh' is guaranteed to be phenomenal, regardless of the conditions.
Utterly hilarious, honest, tallented, bold yet truly modest, creative
and driven, Petch's sticky skiing, visionary musicaltiy, and straight
up ill steez inspire all who cross his path. Dave's advanced music
making diverges from the realm of mainstream to investigate movements
in a more cinematic feel. |
